Bridge contract awarded – construction due 2nd half of 2011

The new estimate for the bridge is finally in the public domain, it comes in 23 million Euros (and counting) above the original projected cost of 105 million. New projection: 128.5 million Euros.

It is obvious to all campaigning against the project that this cost will escalate – due in part to unstable ground beneath the bridge pillars. After drilling down 50 metres during the planning phase, no stable footing was reached. The wine mountain slopes in this particular area are known to be very unstable.

These are the companies who won the bid for the bridge: Eiffel Deutschland Stahltechnologie GmbH, Eiffel Construction Metallique from France and Porr Technobau and Umwelt GmbH from Austria.

We have a timetable – now what are we going to do about it? No need to sit on your hands or twiddle your thumbs. Active ideas and inspired actions are the order of the day. Everyone can do something, so have a think who your contacts are – how can you make a splash and have some fun at the same time?
